Out of the Fog

Well, it's been almost 3 months since Logan was born and I'm finally starting to come out of the fog of a child birth and a new baby! The girls have gotten through their transition too and we're getting into as much of a routine as possible with a newborn in the house! Figured it was time to start updating this blog with some photos of stories of what we've been up to the past few months! I'll do the majority of my typing in this post and then the following posts will contain photos and minimal typing until I am caught back up! It has been a big adjustment bringing Logan into the family, but I think we were past the worst of the transition once he was a little over 2 months old! It was tough for me to go back to waking and feeding a baby after I was used to my 2 girls "finally" sleeping through the night! And it was hard to give up every ounce of "me" time that I had seemed to carve out with the girls being in school/preschool in the mornings. The first few weeks were really tough...the girls were acting up and having tantrums...just their way of dealing with the life change of having a baby in the house. They also fought over everything...who got to hold him first, who held him longer, who got to help change is diaper, who got to stand closer when I changed his diaper, etc. My mom was here for several weeks and my dad was here for a while too, which definitely helped a ton with the transition! At about 3-4 weeks, the girls were past most of the tantrums and by 4-6 weeks the novelty of having a baby around wore off and they quit fighting over him so much! Good thing Logan is a good baby...it allowed me to be more patient and try to help the girls get through their transition! Although I had my moments too! Now they are both more like little mother hens who to try to take care of him and "mother" him! But I guess that's a good thing! And they can both be huge helpers when they are in the mood to be helpful! Logan puts with with a LOT of hugs and kisses and lovin' from his big sisters, that's for sure! And Logan is pretty calm and content and can sleep though all the noise from the girls! Around 2 months he started giving me some 4-5 hour stretches at night between feedings. He doesn't do it every night, but maybe once every 3rd night. He's even had the occasional 6 or 7 hour stretch, which is glorious!! Otherwise, he eats about every 3 hours at night. During the day he is still pretty random with eating and sleeping. It's been hard to keep him on a routine when I run the girls places during the day! Other than taking the girls to their school/classes, I am still not great at venturing out to do much with all 3 of them with me. We went to the library two times and that went okay and then we went to the doctor twice and that was okay...so I am starting to get braver. We've had a few play dates with friends too! I am not that great at nursing in public and then it makes me nervous to think about the older 2 girls running off when I am trying to nurse somewhere! I wish it would get warmer so we could do more walks and playing outside....but still be close to home! But most days I feel good and think, "okay, I can handle 3!" There's just the occasional bad day where everyone is crabby and I think, "what were we thinking?!" LOL! Chad has been super helpful, especially with the bedtime routine, which can be tough. He also gets book-reading duty a lot when I am trying to feed Logan. And Chad has been doing the grocery shopping for me one night a week which is also a huge help....then I don't have to try to drag kids to the store. I am also finding ways to get some "me" time back so that I can keep my sanity! I can typically squeeze in a 30 minute workout and get showered along with feeding Logan and taking care of him during the 3 hours that the girls are in school in the mornings....so for the 3 days a week that they are both gone, I try to workout at least 2 of them. But that's about all I can get done in that 3 hours! On the weekends I've been leaving Chad with all 3 and running errands WITHOUT children, which is also nice! I have been out a few times in the evenings with girlfriends and luckily, Logan takes a bottle pretty well, so I haven't had to worry about him being hungry! Just getting out of the house or getting a few minutes to workout helps me stay balanced! I've also had to become okay with my house being messier, but even that is getting better as Logan gets older! Oh, and Logan loves to watch the girls play lately, so when they are home, he'll sit in his bouncy seat and watch them, which gives me a few minutes to make dinner or clean up or even just sit down for 5 minutes and relax! So all-in-all, we are adjusting well at this point!

2 Month Tricks

At the 2 month old mark, Logan is starting to engage a little more with the girls and he's smiling a TON! He saves his best smiles for when Chad gets home from work, but he'll still give me and the girls quite a few during the day too! Below is a photo of Logan actually holding a tea cup at one of his tea parties with Lydia! She thought that was pretty neat!

Logan has also found his hands and fists. He can clearly bat at toys when he sits in his bouncy seat and he likes to suck on his fists, especially when he's hungry or tired!

Here are some of his smiles! He has a dimple on each cheek! He's super cute, but I guess I'm a little biased! :)

The Girls

Here are the girls building a snowman with Grandma...they built this in January before Logan was born!

Makayla celebrated the 100th Day of School. Here is the shirt we made with 100 pom-poms!

The girls were so excited to have a real, live patient to "doctor" when Logan came home! This was one of the first things they wanted to do with him!

Makayla had to make a leprechaun trap for school! We spent several hours one afternoon creating this masterpiece!

Lydia enjoys playing with Logan. Here she is having a tea party with him! She will talk to him and tell him about what they are doing! She takes great pride in being a big sister and teaching him about life!

Here's Lydia wearing her Doc McStuffins outfit that she got for her birthday from Uncle Tim and Aunt Amy! I had fun putting her hair in cute braids!

Here are some photos of our first walk of the spring! The girls were so excited to walk (run) around the block and were also so excited to "not" wear their jackets!

The girls even had to eat their snack outside that day...although they were getting kinda cold by this point and didn't last too much longer! We put the picnic table in the garage so that they would be a bit warmer!
