Summer is Here!

It was 90 degrees and sunny yesterday so we decided to take the boat out for a spin on the Fox river. We also had fun catching up with Debbie and Robbie, who joined us on the boat! The water felt very refreshing...even Makayla jumped in for a swim! Chad and I got to do a little skiing too!Lydia enjoyed her first boat ride! She slept most of the way and we took turns keeping her in the shade under the canopy!

Swimming Lessons

We've got Makayla in swimming lessons at the YMCA. Chad and Makayla get some father-daughter bonding time during class. Basically, they just sing songs and practice things like balance, coordination, blowing bubbles, and being comfortable in the water! We figured this was a good way to get Makayla ready for summer and being up North and on the boat! Makayla just LOVES singing the songs...especially the popcorn man song...she gets to "pop" in and out of the water!

More smiles

Here's Lydia at 11 weeks! She's giving us some very big smiles now and she'll even giggle and coo! I caught one of her big smiles!

Lydia is also getting better sitting in the Bumbo chair! She just loves to look around and watch what's going on! She's a very happy and content baby, but she's also a very curious baby!

Smile for the Camera

Okay, so here's another attempt at a smile from Lydia! She's 10 weeks in this photo. Here's Lydia trying out her Bumbo chair...whoops, Makayla wanted to be in the photo too! We told her to sit next to Lydia, so here's where she sat!
Here we go...now we can see Lydia! After we take a photo, Makayla likes to see herself in the photo preview on the camera!

Visit to Michigan

Earlier this month, I took the girls and we drove 450 miles to MI to visit my family! We had a long, but surprisingly good car ride. It was a little tricky trying to go to the bathroom with 2 little ones...but between the Baby Bjorn for Lydia, a toddler leash for Makayla, elastic waist pants for me, and lots of patience with Makayla "touching" things and crawling on the floor in public restrooms, it worked out! We had a little scare with a shady looking van that pulled up next to us in a city park at dusk, but I didn't stick around to find out what they wanted! I was also grateful for my mini van! I stowed one captain's seat and had a little play area for Makayla while I sat in the back and nursed Lydia. Then Makayla got to run around and play for a little while after each nursing! We stayed in MI for a week and had a great time!

Below is a picture of the table that Makayla set. She was playing with her toy dishes and went around setting plates and cups at each person's seat and saying who they were for. You can see place settings for Makayla, Mom, Grandma, Grandpa, and Uncle Pat! :)
Here's a shot of all the girls! We had a fun mother's day together!
We also got to see my grandparents on Mother's Day!
Here's Lydia meeting Uncle Pat!

We took Makayla to several parks around Midland and she had a blast playing. Below is a photo of Makayla and the little girl that she befriended and followed around the park! :)
Below is Makayla enjoying the swing!
Another ride on a swing!
This play ground was almost too big for Makayla. But it was fun going to! We got to walk across the Tridge (3-way bridge) and it brought back memories of when I was a kid! Of course, the playground wasn't this cool when I was a kid! Makayla was getting pretty brave and would walk up to the smallest slide and slide down herself. She did not want any help from us! She's definitely getting to be independent!Makayla's vocabulary also seemed to grow exponentially when we were in Michigan. She's saying so many more words and she's starting to string words together into sentences! One funny thing that she says is "my's". She say: Mom's, Dad's, and My's (instead of mine)! :)
Also, when we were at the park, I pointed out some dandelions to Makayla. She looked at them and goes "roar!"

Catching up on Posts

It's been a while since I've posted, so here's the catch-up posts...

Here's a partial smile from Lydia. She was almost 8 weeks in this photo. She had started smiling, but I was having the hardest time catching a photo of it.

Here's Makayla sitting on the potty and reading a book. She likes to sit on the potty and is fascinated by "poop" and where it comes from. Poop is her term for anything that is in her diaper or comes from her bottom! She has never actually put anything in the potty...she usually tells us after she has gone to the bathroom in her diaper and then she wants to sit on the potty. If she fills her pants, she'll say "I pooped! Change diaper!" But then she hates how cold the wipes are, so we have to fight with her to get her bottom clean! We are not aggressively potty training, but don't discourage her from sitting on the potty.
