Back to School Catch Up!

Wow, I've gotten way behind in my blog posts!!  Now that the girls are back in school, I've spent several hours going through my photos and updating the past 4 months of my blog posts!  How crazy to see how much the kids have grown over the summer and how fun to re-live all of our summer excitement!  I've tried to post them in chronological order all the way back to April, which was the last time I updated this blog!  Wow!

Our biggest news from the past few months is that we are expecting a baby boy!!  He's due 1/24/14 and so far, he looks healthy!  Between not feeling the greatest in May/June and then a summer filled with travel and fun, this blog was kind of pushed to the back burner!  I'm happy to say that I'm feeling pretty good at 21 weeks into my pregnancy and the girls are semi-happily back to school!

The news of a baby boy was quite a bit of a shocker to the girls!  They were convinced we were having a girl and referred to the baby in my belly as a girl!  Makayla burst into tears and was devastated when she found out it was a boy.  Within a day, she came around though and now she's much more excited that a baby brother is joining our family.  Lydia was in denial for a while and told me, "Mom, I'm just going to call the baby a girl until it's born!"  However, she has started calling him a boy and is also getting excited at the thought of a brother and also at the thought of being a "big sister" as well as a "little sister!"  The girls think all boys like Spiderman, so they are ready to buy him Spiderman toys and clothes!  :)  They are also excited to have Lydia move into Makayla's room so that we can convert Lydia's room back into the nursery!  Chad, of course, is super excited for a boy and so am I.  I think (hope) he'll bring a little balance and mellowness to this house full of girls!  I have to admit, I'm a little sad that my baby girl clothes are not getting used again, but I'm super excited to start building a wardrobe of cute baby boy clothes!  Time to go shopping!!

Makayla is in 4K this year and she goes to school Monday through Friday from 8am til 11am.  Lydia is in 3K (preschool) and she goes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8am til 11am.  Both girls are at St. Nicholas Catholic School right here in Freedom.  I drop them off in the morning and they get to ride the school bus home!  We've had some tears and drama in the morning...although not until the excitement of the first few days of school wore off.  However, both girls are always full of smiles when they get off the school bus!!

Makayla just turned 5 and she keeps us on our toes.  She loves dance and gymnastics and playing her Hello Kitty game.  She has become quite competitive with her Hello Kitty game and she is a fast-paced player who can quickly read the number on the dice, think strategically which move is best, and move her player!  She gets pretty annoyed if her competitor doesn't play as quickly as she does and she'll take a turn for you if you don't move fast enough!  This new found love of games has happened in the past month or so...ever since she got the game for her birthday!  She also continues to be quite sensitive and can be very emotional at times, mostly when she's tired!

Lydia just turned 3.5 and she seems to have grown up over night!  She was quite temperamental between 2.5 and 3.5 years old (I think the terrible 2's hit a bit late), but she has mellowed quite a bit recently and is so much fun to be around!  She also loves dance and is super excited to be able to take dance class this fall!  She likes gymnastics too, although she enjoys more independent play at the gym vs an organized class.  So I've got her in the mom and tot class right now, which is more her pace!  She also seems to have had a growth spurt lately...she looks so much taller and older to me!

Chad is doing well.  Our rental properties kept him exceptionally busy this summer, which was a change for our family.  We were all glad when fall hit and the repairs and remodels slowed down a bit!  Now he's on to some work travel, which leaves 3 bummed out girls hanging out at home together!

I've been doing well too!  I was in a groove of running and training for a half marathon before I got pregnant.  I was eating well, exercising, and feeling great!  And I was the skinniest that I've been since at least college!  I was definitely looking forward to buying some new summer clothes...at least up until I got pregnant!  However, I am super excited for this long-awaited pregnancy!  The pregnancy has definitely brought some changes to my fitness routine and slowed me down a bit, but overall, I'm feeling great!  I just spent the past weekend digging through my many tubs of maternity clothes and have had to break down and start wearing them again!  I'm also excited to have the girls in school again and excited to have a few hours to myself each week!  I also like the routine that fall brings...especially since our summer was intentionally not so structured with routine!

Well, that's a quick update on us!  Enjoy reading the series of blog posts from our summer adventures!  I think I counted 15 new posts that will follow this one!  Yikes, I was pretty far behind!!

More Cottage Fun

We spent the last 2 weekends of August as well as Labor day weekend at the Evers' family cabin.  We were so busy during the first part of the summer, that we didn't get a lot of cottage time this summer!  As always, the girls had a blast!  We were lucky for some pretty nice weather too!

Lydia really loves swimming in the lake and she got pretty confident by the end of the summer!

Here's Makayla smiling for the camera!

Makayla and one of her favorite playmates, her cousin, Addison!

Makayla was brave enough to try regular skis this year.  She only had time for a few tries before the summer was over, but she was able to get up for a few seconds!!

Fun on Uncle Tim and Aunt Amy's boat!  The kids like to swim back and forth between our boat and their boat!  We also took turns with the kids tubing and skiing!

Our family over Labor Day Weekend!

Here are the girls tubing!

These last few photos are at Pickerel Point Beach and Bar.  The kids love playing in the sand and water and they love to get a kiddie cocktail too!

Happy 5th Birthday Makayla

Wow, my little girl is 5 now!  Seems like just yesterday that she was a baby!  Every year brings new and exciting adventures with her...can't wait to see what this year has in store for us!  This year we got to celebrate several times!  We had an early party with grandparents and godparents.  We had a small get together with 2 of Makayla's cousins, and then we celebrated and gave Makayla the gifts from us on her actual birthday!  For her theme this year, she picked Hello Kitty and Flip Flops.  We kind of merged the 2 themes together for all of the parties!  She picked Hello Kitty because she's really into Hello Kitty lately and she picked flip flops because we had a pedicure playdate with her cousins!  It all turned out pretty cute!  And Makayla loved every minute of the celebrating!

Here's Makayla wearing her party dress and getting ready for her party with her grandparents and godparents.

Opening gifts!

Dad is reading her one of her cards!

How exciting!  A bathtime baby doll!

Our fruit kabob display!

Here are some of our decorations!

Here's Makayla's flip-flop cake...made to coordinate with the tablecloth!  (No, I did not make this one!)

We also had Hello Kitty cupcakes!  I bought the cupcakes and the kids had fun adding the Hello Kitty decorations!

Cake and cupcakes, with a few starts to decorate!

The birthday girl, happily smiling as we sang Happy Birthday to her!

Oooh, how fun!  An Amazon package came in the mail!  Thanks Auntie Monica and Uncle Jeff...we used your gift at the pedicure playdate!

Here we are prepping for the next party...a pedicure playdate with Addison and Brielle.  Makayla requested a blue polka dot cake!  Here we are making the polka dots!

Here's the finished cake...this one I did myself!  Not too shabby, if I do say so myself!  There's a photo of the inside if you keep scrolling down!

Here are the chairs, all set up for the pedi party!

Our Hello Kitty and flip flop party favors!

Ahh, a little relaxation!  Here are Addison, Makayla, and Brielle soaking their feet!  None of them had ever soaked their feet before, but they all seemed to enjoy it...for about 5 minutes!  Lydia was not into the foot soak, so she went right for the nail polish!  All 4 girls got their toe nails and finger nails painted!  :)  I forgot to get a photo of the cute toes in the cute flip flops!  Whoops!

The girls had fun playing with Makayla's gift from Auntie Monica and Uncle Jeff...some pearler beads that fuse together with a hot iron and make a neat design!  They were all very patient to put the beads on the boards!

Time to sing to the Birthday Girl again!

Here's our polka dot cake!  It came out pretty neat!  We made a similar cake last Spring and Makayla just loved it, so we made it for her birthday too!

Finally, August 2nd, Makayla's actual birthday!  I decorated the mantel with her gifts and the photo frames!  She had fun opening her gifts when she woke up!

Summer Randomness!

Here are some random photos that didn't really fit in other posts!

Here's Makayla and then Lydia helping me make fruit kabobs for Makayla's birthday supper!

Here's Lydia "helping" me clean the bathroom before the guests came over for Makayla's birthday!  I intentionally gave her a few squirts of bathroom cleaner and then took the bottle of cleaner and put it away.  I walked away for a few minutes thinking she'd be fine by herself!  However, she wanted more soap, so she just squirted the foaming hand soap all over the counter to get lots of bubbles!  It smelled pretty fruity in the bathroom!  LOL!  Oh, and note the dress that Lydia is wearing...that is her absolute favorite dress!!

Here are the girls enjoying the gag-gift that I got at the white elephant gift exchange at the Van Helvoirt reunion.  They had a blast putting it together and even ate some of it, although I quickly and discretely disposed of it since I had no idea how old it was!!

The girls always have fun playing with the cloud dough at my girlfriend's house, so we made some to play with at home!  It was pretty messy, but they had a blast!
