August Already...where did summer go?

Well, summer is wrapping up, but we are still going strong...at least for the first few weeks of August.  By the last two weeks of August the girls were getting antsy and bored and ready for school.  They were also picking at each other more and fighting more.  I was counting down the days (okay, maybe the hours) until school started!  I tried not to wish away the beautiful summer, but I was definitely ready for school to start back up on September 2nd! Here are some photos of the fun that we had in August!

Fun at a new park!

Here's the Survivor concert that I helped to coordinate for a fund raiser for St. Nicholas School!

The day after the Survivor concert, St. Nicholas had their annual parish picnic.  Below are the girls with their arm/face painting.

Makayla lost her first tooth!  She has been waiting for months to get a loose tooth!!  She discovered it loose on her birthday and it fell out on Tuesday August 5th.  It was a little wiggly so she asked if she could try to pull it out.  I said, "sure" thinking that it wouldn't actually come out.  Makayla surprised herself and me when she walked into the room holding her tooth!!

Her second front bottom tooth fell out on 8-29-14.  We teased her that she lost the same two teeth that Logan just grew!  Here's her selfie of the 2nd missing tooth!

Lydia was having some nice snuggle and rest time with Chad one day, so I tried to capture the moment!

Makayla has been nagging to go on a nature hike all summer!  We finally found a nice morning for a hike and I put Logan in the baby carrier and off we went!  The girls brought their toy binoculars for spotting wild life!

I printed out the map of the trails and Makayla enjoyed reading the map and guiding us on which path to take!  There are also maps on the trail as well, but Makayla enjoyed having her own map.

Swinging fun!

The girls got an ant farm and a butterfly habitat for Christmas.  We did the ant farm and the girls weren't too excited.  However, they really enjoyed the butterflies.  The caterpillars arrived by mail and we put them in the cage with their food.  Then built chrysalises in their cage.  A few days later they turned into butterflies.  We fed enjoyed the butterflies for a few days and then released them outside!  Definitely a neat experience!

Another art board...I think I finally got through all of last school year's art projects!  :)  Good thing because the start of the school year is just around the corner!

Happy 6th Birthday Makayla

Happy 6th Birthday Makayla!  We celebrated with an early party in July in order to catch grandparents and Auntie Monica and Uncle Jeff while they were visiting!  Then, we celebrated at the cottage with cake and a few small items on Makayla's actual birthday, August 2nd.  Makayla picked ladybugs, butterflies, and flowers for her theme this year.

Here's her birthday cupcakes...ladybugs, butterflies, and flowers!

Some of our decorations.  Makayla was incredibly excited to decorate for her party and did most of the decorating herself, or with minimal help from me!

Opening gifts...

Makayla wanted a balloon pump and balloons for balloon animals...this gift was such a hit with everyone, not just Makayla.

Even Livi liked the balloons!

Here's our homemade ladybug pinata that we made.  It actually held up WAY better than I expected and everyone enjoyed it!

Blowing out candles!

Another small celebration at the cottage on the actual day of her birthday!

Here's a close up of Makayla's cute birthday shirt...which I TOTALLY forgot about when we celebrated her birthday the first time!

Logan in August

I guess the paparazzi slacked on photos in August...I don't have "quite" as many of Logan this month!  August was an exploring month for Logan!  Logan also cut his two front bottom teeth. We noticed the front bottom left tooth on Aug 10th and the front bottom right tooth on Aug 14th.

Here's Logan trying to pull out the cubby and get into it.  He has mastered this talent!

Here's Logan trying to get into the girls stamping projects!

Since he loves the hearth so much, I thought I'd foil him with a few chairs!  First he tried to go under the chairs and got stuck, so after I freed him, he just crawled around the chairs!  So much for that barrier!

Logan had a little too much fun one day and fought his nap for too long...he couldn't hold out any longer!  I usually put him in here when I shower...otherwise, he's into everything...including trying to get into the shower!!

Logan watching the girls play on the steps...for some reason they wanted to play here.  This is also where I tossed all the balloon animals after Makayla's birthday...they sat there for a few weeks until I disposed of the shriveled up carcasses!

Lately Logan likes to roam around the house and see what he can get into.  If it gets too quiet I’ll go looking for him and I’ll say, “Logan where are you?”  He knows I’m looking for him and he watches me.  When I spot him, he just looks at me and laughs!

Those little hands reached up and grabbed a bookmark and proceeded to eat it!  Ironically, this bookmark was in a book from the library and it stated that the book had water damage that we were not responsible for...good thing I caught Logan before he chewed on the book and caused damage that we would be responsible for!!

Yum...corn cobs!   My mom has fond memories of me gnawing on corn cobs, so I had to take some photos of Logan gnawing on them!  I love this first photo...he looks so determined!

We've been experimenting with various sippy cups!

You can kind of see Logan's two teeth!

Here's Logan with some soft Puffs that melt in his mouth.  He did very well grabbing them and getting them to his mouth!

These photos were taken the day after Logan turned 7 months.  He isn't so willing to sit still for photos any more!

Logan had a blast playing with this string that hung down from Makayla's birthday helium balloon that was tied to her chair.  It was there to entertain him for several weeks!
