Trip to Michigan August 2017

The kids and I took our annual summer vacation to Michigan.  We changed it up a little this year by riding the SS Badger Car Ferry across Lake Michigan.  My parents rode it over to WI, and then rode back to MI with us.  Makayla got a little motion sick, even though I had given her Dramamine before we left.  I gave Lydia and Logan Benadryl before so left, so I ended up giving Makayla Benadryl on the boat, and that brought her some relief!

We stayed overnight on the western side of Michigan in order to ride on Mac Woods Dune Rides.  However, it was pouring rain the next morning, so we had to find an alternate activity.  We decided to visit USS Silversides, a WWII submarine.  It was neat to see, although the kids got a little antsy towards the end.

After our submarine tour and lunch, it cleared up enough to hit the dune rides!  We all had a blast!!

We ran down this dune and then had to climb back up!

It was getting cloudy again, but we quickly stopped by this state park so that the kids could swim in Lake Michigan!

We spent the rest of the trip in Midland at my parent's house.  Here are a few pictures from a local park...the kids always love the static on the slide!

We met my brother, Pat, and his fiance, Mindy, at a park in Mount Pleasant.  It was a great mid-point for meeting up for lunch and visiting!

The partial eclipse happened while we were in Michigan.  I missed the boat on getting the special eclipse glasses, so we built our own viewing boxes, which were fun to use!  After watching about half the eclipse, we went to a park to play.  A little girl loaned us her eclipse glasses, so we got to check-out the eclipse that way too!

We always enjoy going to Cottage Creamery for ice cream.  Tuesday in the summer is their "kids night" and they have lots of fun activities for kids!  We discovered it by accident last year, but made a point to go on Tuesday this year! (along with going a few other days too, lol)

We also managed to catch up with some of my cousins and Aunts and Uncles on both sides of the family while we were in Michigan.  Here's a couple photos with our kids and the kids of my cousins Jennifer and Andy.

Quick selfie before heading out of town...450 miles to go!

One quick stop along Lake Michigan on the way home.  The kids were disappointed that it was a little too chilly to swim!
